Inês Valença Câncio
Inês began her riding career at the age of three. Her public debut was in the show perfromed by the Centro Equestre da Lezíria Grande at the Golegã Horse Fair. She did a Pas 3 with her mother and grandfather, as well as a solo. She hasn’t stopped since then! Inês has been in hundreds of shows in Portugal and abroad as part of the CELG cast of riders.
She entered her first competition when she was 11 years old, taking part in various pools with the horses she usually rides for the shows. Right from the start she stood out and won top places.
In April 2012 Inês was given Xeque-Mate, thereby fulfilling a life-long dream – owning a horse with which she could develop a sporting project, as partners.
They began the championship with just two months’ training together and qualified for the finale! They came third in the Portuguese Championship, having practiced for just six months.
There was still much to be improved in Xeque-Mate’s physical capabilities as an athlete, as well as in the horse/rider partnership.
Inês managed to combine her studies with the training for the competition and always achieved the results she set out for herself.
